Architecture of Dakshineswar Kali Temple
This temple was built in a typical Bengal style of architecture. There are 9 spires called the Nav-Ratna in the temple, shaped in a chariot form with a fixed wheel on both sides.
The height of the temple is about 30 meters. The Garbha Griha , where the Holy Mother is placed on a huge silver throne. The idol of Goddess Bhavatarini is made of black stone, and Lord Shiva is lying under her foot.
Dakshineswar Temple – History of Temple
Once, Rani Rashmoni visited the sacred city of Varanasi (Kashi or Banaras) to express her devotion to the goddess Kali. But, Goddess Kali appeared in her dream and ordered her to construct a temple of Goddess Kali in Bengal itself. Rani Rashmoni immediately built a beautiful and famous 12-spired Dakshineswar Kali temple on the banks of the sacred Ganges at Dakshineswar between 1847 and 1855.
The temple architecture is built in the Bengali style of architecture. The main temple has a shrine to the Goddess Bahvatarini and is surrounded by twelve other temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Radha-Krishna.
